LUDHIANA: Punjab Government and Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Saturday handed over cheques of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the firefighters, who died in plastic factory fire mishap in November.
Apart from this, the amount of all monetary benefits of the deceased were also given to the families. Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu was present in the function.
He said that the sacrifice of firefighters who lost their lives in the mishap cannot be forgotten.
The MP said that the Punjab Government and Congress party will always be present for the families of the firefighters.
Punjab Government and Municipal Corporation have contributed Rs. 5 lakh each respectively.
Likewise, the officials and employees of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation have also pledged to donate one-day salary for the families of the deceased.
He said that nine employees of fire brigade had lost their lives in the mishap out of which the bodies of three victims were not found.
He said due to delay in the issuance of death certificates to the families of those three employees, the compensation cheque to their families will be given within a week.
He claimed that the government is in process of completing formalities of the government job to one member from each deceased family, appointment letters would be handed to them soon.
